Hello, this is Joy. Hikers are still making great progress daily. It appears they are getting 18-21 miles a day this week. They typically start by 6:30am and hike anywhere between 11-13 hrs daily. Their stopping point really depends on where they can camp. This was their view from last nights camp:
They are aiming to get to a road intersection called Walker Pass. It’s 22 or 23 miles from their current location and they don’t know if they can do that much today (Saturday) — depending on what terrain they are going to hit. So, their goal is to hang back at around 19 miles today and get to Walker Pass early Sunday morning. Once they get to the road, they will need to get a ride (25 miles) to a small town called Ridgecrest. They have a Best Western waiting for them — bed/shower/laundry/Walmart for food. Getting the ride in is the challenging part. I’ll be praying that some good person will be in the area or one of the area Trail Angel’s will offer a ride to two dirty-stinky hikers when they get to Walker Pass :).
Have a great day, everyone!
