Hello, Joy here. I haven’t heard from the hikers since Wednesday, but I do get the Garmin GPS notifications periodically, so I can see they are still on the move. They should have crossed the 200 mile marker yesterday, so that’s another notch off of their list. Today, it looks like they will be crossing the San Gorgonia River (gosh, I hope there is a bridge to walk on), and they will be crossing Interstate 10. They will not be stopping along Interstate 10 (except maybe for a quick lunch), as they have enough food to get them to their next location, about 55-65 miles ahead. It’s there where they will need to resupply, laundry and shower.
By looking at Ron’s spreadsheet that he left me (yes,, he’s an Engineer and I expected a spreadsheet), they should be averaging 14-16 mile days. If his and Kendra’s legs and body are ready, they will be bumping up their mileage to 20 mile days, next week. (hiker legs)
I posted a video that Ron sent to me earlier this week of the San Jacinto Peak. This was a bit off of the trail for them (so no actual PCT miles), but while they were there, they heard it was a site not to miss. This is a hard climb up to the peak, at 10,800 feet, but you can look straight down to the desert floor — pretty cool. Hope you have time to view the video and it’s only 30 seconds long.
Ron will download pictures and post when he has service and battery power! Happy weekend!
Thanks for the update. I check the blog every single day. That video was spectacular, what a view!!!
Hi Misty – Bucket here – Kendra and I appreciate your comments. As you know, she is best reached by texting. Thanks again!
Misty, this is Kendra’s mom Joy, and I just found out last night that you used to work with Kendra at MSD. That is so nice that you and others are following along on her adventure. She doesn’t get on the blog, so far, but Ron and I share everyone’s comments with her and she greatly appreciates everyone’s thoughts!
She’s been a trouper so far!
Thanks for posting! We’re monitoring their progress and anxiously awaiting more!
Brian and Donna – Bucket here- thank you for your comments!
