Bucket here – Sage and I made it to Stevens Pass around 6:00 pm last night. This is another ski resort area. Everything is closed in this area due to COVID. We have a resupply package at the lodge, but it can only be picked up between 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. So we had to stay in the area.
We finally got a hitch along Highway 2 at around 7:00 pm to a little town called Skykomish. It is 16 miles from Stevens Pass. We got a room at the Cascadia Inn here in town, and was able to get dinner at a tavern next door. We got showers last night. This morning we plan to do laundry.
This last section of trail was really difficult for us. Lots of big climbs and lots of rocks on the trail, which slows us down. We had rain all afternoon and through the night this past Friday. We still made it through this section in 4 days, but we never had a 20 mile day during this time.
We’ll see how this next section goes. It is a 108 mile stretch that takes us to our last resupply point in Stehekin, WA. The forecast calls for mixed rain and colder temperatures this coming week. But we’ll keep pushing north! We have less than 200 miles remaining to reach Canada.
I have downloaded all recent photos. Thank you to everyone following our journey and commenting!
So fun meeting you! All the best, Carol and Stan
Carol and Stan,
I understand you gave Bucket and Sage a ride back to Stevens Pass today. Thank you very much for your kindness and help. I know they were grateful and I appreciate it very much, too. So many kind people have crossed their paths the last 5 months — it’s been a very heartwarming experience for both of them.
Sincerely, Joy McAdams
This is our second serendipitous meeting with PTCers. We gave a ride to 3 very rain-soaked hikers from New England a couple of years ago who were heading the opposite direction — west to Skykomish to get a dry bed and a shower. I am happy to report Sage and Bucket looked much fresher than those 3! What an amazing dad/daughter memory they are making!
It’s been exciting reading your posts from the trail. Quite an adventure for the two of you. Your almost there, Hang Tough. We will see you soon and here lots about your journey.
