Bucket here – It’s been 22 days since Sage and I had a zero day. Joy was able to get us 2 nights at a Motel 6 in South Lake Tahoe. These days are very helpful to allow some rest and healing. Sage had mentioned 2 days ago that she felt exhausted – so hopefully this little break gets us back to normal again. We’ve both lost weight – not sure how much but I’ve been tightening my belt quite a bit to keep my pants up!
We climbed the last big Pass (Donohue Pass) on June 22nd. On June 26th we passed 1000 miles of hiking and climbed Sonora Pass – which was an unusual hike, but beautiful surroundings. So we’re now still in the northern Sierras. Still climbing involved, but mainly in the 1000 ft climb range.
I believe we will essentially be out of the Sierras after Donner Pass (about 100 miles ahead). We still have another 600-700 miles to hike in Northern California before we make it to Oregon.
So we still take it one day at a time and plan from one resupply point to the next. Nothing terribly unusual happened since our previous blog. We did get caught in a cold thunderstorm with hail on top of Peavy Pass for about 4 hours. Being on top of an exposed rock mountain while lightning is crashing around is not ideal conditions (lol), but we survived fine and was able to dry out and warm up before camping that night.
Still much beautiful scenery, and we’ve downloaded our pictures to the website. I hope the photos reflect a bit of what we’re seeing- but nothing compares to actually being here and walking through it first hand.
So that’s it for now. Sage and I will get back on the trail tomorrow morning. We’ll have 6-7 days to get to Sierra City, CA – where Joy has shipped resupply packages for us. Thank you to everyone following our journey. We enjoy reading your comments!
You all are doing awesome, and the pictures rock. Love the panoramic with the trails on either side. Hope the zero was restorative, it’s so beautiful out there, continue to revel in it and enjoy each step, each day. Congrats on hitting a 1000+.
SpiderMan – Bucket here- thanks for following us and commenting – you would love this! Feel free to join us at any time that is convenient. Thank you for following us and commenting!
Hang tough you two. Prayers for your journey.
David and Pam – thank you for following us and commenting. We can use all prayers that are issued our way. I have daily prayers that I issue in the morning and afternoon. We’ll keep moving northward and hope for the best. One day at a time. This is day 80. We’ll keep pushing north as long as we can. Thank you.
